Fixel Research Pilot Awards

Overview

The Fixel Institute offers competitive Pilot Awards to support early-stage research projects that align with our mission to advance the understanding and treatment of complex neurodegenerative diseases. These awards help investigators generate preliminary data, test new hypotheses, and position their work for future funding from agencies like the NIH or private foundations.

About The Awards

Fixel Pilot Awards are designed to:

  • Support innovative and interdisciplinary projects
  • Encourage novel approaches in neuroscience and neurocare
  • Catalyze research momentum during the earliest phases of an idea
  • Promote collaboration across departments and colleges

Each pilot award cycle focuses on a specific priority area or theme, such as artificial intelligence in imaging, dystonia research, or neurological education. Award details, eligibility, and submission requirements are published when each new Request for Applications (RFA) is released.

How It Works

  • Pilot RFAs are released periodically based on available funding and strategic focus areas
  • Applicants are selected through a competitive peer-review process
  • Awards are typically for a 12-month project period
  • Individual award amounts may vary depending on the funding source and project scope
