Fueling Discovery by Investing in Time
The People-Based Awards are designed to give promising researchers the protected time and institutional backing they need to advance high-impact neuroscience projects. Whether you’re an early-career investigator or a rising clinical scientist, these awards are tailored to free up your time from clinical, administrative, or teaching responsibilities so you can focus on research that drives discovery and improves patient care.
What These Awards Typically Support
- Protected research time or partial FTE support
- Research funding for early-stage, translational ideas
- Recognition and visibility within the UF research community
- Protected time for early-career or mid-career investigators
- Time-limited funding to jumpstart a novel research idea
- Opportunities for clinical staff to explore or lead research
- Special calls for underrepresented or cross-disciplinary applicants
Each opportunity is time-bound and structured through a formal request for applications (RFA). Fixel membership is required to apply.

People-Based Research Awards are open to current Fixel members in research, clinical, or faculty roles. Individual RFAs may outline additional eligibility requirements depending on the specific call.
