About Stefano Cacciatore
Stefano Cacciatore, MD, is a board-certified geriatrician and clinician-scientist with training in epidemiology and biostatistics. He received his medical degree from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome, Italy, where he also completed his residency in geriatrics and earned a Master of Science in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Prior to joining the University of Florida, he served as an attending physician at Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli in Rome, with clinical responsibilities in the Geriatric Internal Medicine Unit and in outpatient services dedicated to the prevention of age-related diseases and the promotion of healthy longevity. His research focuses on healthy aging and the preservation of function across the adult life course, with interests spanning sarcopenia and muscle health, as well as lifestyle and cardiometabolic determinants of functional decline. Through his involvement in community-based prevention programs, he developed a strong interest in population health and early intervention. This experience has informed a research agenda increasingly centered on the World Health Organization healthy aging framework and intrinsic capacity, a multidimensional construct describing an individual’s overall functional abilities, with a focus on its determinants and clinical relevance across aging trajectories. He is a member of the Editorial Board of BMC Geriatrics and regular peer reviewer for leading international journals, including The Lancet, The Lancet Healthy Longevity, and Annals of Internal Medicine.
