September was a month of recognition and support. We join the global community in observing World Alzheimer’s Month, raising awareness of dementia and its impact. We also honor Dystonia Awareness Month, advocating for education, research and support for those affected by dystonia and related movement disorders.

September also included National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, a time to celebrate recovery, resilience and the incredible work of Fixel’s rehabilitation team. In addition, we recognize APP Appreciation Week, honoring our advanced practice providers for their dedication and compassionate care.

This October, the Fixel Institute joins the global community in recognizing several important observances. On Oct. 10, World Mental Health Day, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing care, research, and support that address both neurological and mental health challenges, while working to reduce stigma and foster awareness. We also celebrate Physician Assistant (PA) Appreciation Week, honoring the dedication and expertise of our PA colleagues who play an essential role in patient care. In addition, October is Lewy Body Dementia Awareness Month, a time to highlight the importance of research, advocacy, and support for those impacted by this complex condition.

The Fixel Institute Early Researcher Catalyst Awards provide early-career investigators with dedicated time, mentorship and resources to advance innovative projects in clinical and translational neuroscience. Designed to support instructors and assistant professors within their first five years of appointment, the program offers two years of funding to help researchers develop ideas, build teams and pursue impactful studies in areas such as ALS, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, dystonia, multiple sclerosis and traumatic brain injury.
More than a grant, the Catalyst Awards serve as a mentorship-based incubator, empowering the next generation of clinician-researchers to shape the future of neurological care.

The second floor of the Fixel Institute Research & Administration building is being transformed into the Research & Technology Innovation Incubator (RTII). A state-of-the-art hub designed to spark collaboration and accelerate discovery in neurological care.

Renovations begin in late fall 2025 and are expected to be completed by June 2026. During this time, the second floor will be closed to employees, with restrooms and water fountains available on the first floor only.

We look forward to sharing updates as the RTII takes shape and ushers in a new era of innovation at the Fixel Institute.
