The Commons for Movement Disorders Fellows
A TOUR OF THE NORMAN FIXEL INSTITUTE FOR NEUROLOGICAL DISEASES AT UF HEALTH
About 40-50 movement disorders neurologists, 10-20 Alzheimer’s neurologists and fewer than 10 traumatic brain injury specialists are trained each year in the United States.
One of our core missions is to increase the total number of fellows trained in disease areas that are the focus of the Fixel Institute.
We have fellowship programs in Movement Disorders, dystonia, Alzheimer’s/Behavioral Neurology, Concussion/Traumatic Brain Injury and Cognitive/Movement-Related Features of Multiple Sclerosis.
The Institute boasts one of the largest dystonia and movement disorders and traumatic brain injury training programs in the country.
The fellows area is referred to as “the Commons” as it is a place where national and international fellows can meet, collaborate and learn how to build and work in teams.
The space was designed with a skylight to symbolize worldwide collaboration and to remind the fellows of the mission to grow the next generation.
This space was provided through a generous donation from The Frances C. & William P. Smallwood Foundation.
