The Commons for Movement Disorders Fellows
A TOUR OF THE NORMAN FIXEL INSTITUTE FOR NEUROLOGICAL DISEASES AT UF HEALTH

commons office area
  • About 40-50 movement disorders neurologists, 10-20 Alzheimer’s neurologists and fewer than 10 traumatic brain injury specialists are trained each year in the United States.
  • One of our core missions is to increase the total number of fellows trained in disease areas that are the focus of the Fixel Institute.
  • We have fellowship programs in Movement Disorders, dystonia, Alzheimer’s/Behavioral Neurology, Concussion/Traumatic Brain Injury and Cognitive/Movement-Related Features of Multiple Sclerosis.
  • The Institute boasts one of the largest dystonia and movement disorders and traumatic brain injury training programs in the country.
  • The fellows area is referred to as “the Commons” as it is a place where national and international fellows can meet, collaborate and learn how to build and work in teams.
  • The space was designed with a skylight to symbolize worldwide collaboration and to remind the fellows of the mission to grow the next generation.
  • This space was provided through a generous donation from The Frances C. & William P. Smallwood Foundation.
