Patient Artwork
A TOUR OF THE NORMAN FIXEL INSTITUTE FOR NEUROLOGICAL DISEASES AT UF HEALTH

  • If you look at the walls in the Fixel Institute they are filled with paintings and photography from patients.
  • The patients compete for spots on the walls and their art is judged by a multi-college committee for display.
  • The purpose of sharing patient art is twofold.
    • First, it is our core philosophy that the patient is the sun around which we revolve, and so it follows that the walls would be filled with patient-derived art.
    • Second, the art tells a story of the journey of a patient with a disease. Dopamine, electricity from deep brain stimulators and some medications seem to make patients more creative and likely contribute to the high quality of the collection.
