Digital Gait and Balance Analysis Strip
A Tour of the Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases at UF Health
Falling is a leading morbidity in Parkinson’s, dystonia and neurodegenerative diseases.
A hallmark signature of the Institute is that every patient, as part of their therapy, walks across an automated gait and balance strip.
The idea was created by Dr. Christopher Hass in the department of physiology and kinesiology.
Information on walking, balance, turning and fall risk are relayed to the treating rehabilitation team and also sent to the doctor(s) to enhance care and to contribute to research.
Tens of thousands of “walks” have been recorded.
The Digital Gait and Balance Analysis Strip was donated by Patty and John Noel.
