The Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases at UF Health received a generous $52,500 gift from ICI Homes for Hope. Made possible by a new home sold in the Oakmont neighborhood, this contribution will support groundbreaking research, provide exceptional patient care, and push the boundaries of treatment for neurological conditions at the Fixel Institute.

“Gifts like this one, directly from the community, are so impactful and so meaningful for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and ALS and beyond. This gift will catapult our efforts to reach many more lives,” said Michael S. Okun, M.D., director of the Fixel Institute and a board-certified neurologist, movement disorders specialist and neuroscientist. “We believe the patient is the sun, and all care and research should orbit around them. This gift will help to make that happen.”
Building and selling homes to support organizations across Greater Gainesville, ICI Homes for Hope strives to impact the community through its long-standing commitment to philanthropy.
“This was an incredible experience to do so much good for the community, and I’m so thankful for the incredible support we received from our vendors to make this possible,” said Dan Middleton, ICI Homes Project Manager at Oakmont.
Proceeds of $210,000 were split among four organizations, which also included:
· Junior Achievement of Alachua County
· Pace Center for Girls Alachua
· Rex & Brody Foundation
“The generous gifts from our community and beyond are directly responsible for building the Fixel Institute and for transforming the neurological disease horizon for this generation and the next,” said Kelly D. Foote, M.D., co-director of the Fixel Institute and a neurosurgeon who specializes in deep brain stimulation surgery. “We measure our impact in the number of lives we touch, and this gift moves the needle.”
